About the Stream Map
The Stream Map aims at defining a clear and consistent roadmap for the Small Hydropower sector in Europe. The project sets up for the first time in history a central database of data on hydropower which includes the most relevant and recent information on the sector. Stream Map groups the needs, barriers and challenges of the Small Hydropower sector in a common, centralized database, presenting them in an accurate and realistic way. In turn, this will offer a valuable reference for EU institutions, stakeholders and the general public in analysing the current status of the Small Hydropower field. Stream Map quantifies market potential, trends, installed capacity, energy production, fees, prices, capital and operation and maintenance costs, timeframes and rates of project approvals in the context of the concessions and authorization procedures.
The final Stream Map will be ready in 2012 and the results will be widely distributed to political decision makers on national, regional and local levels. By means of this process, the main success of the project will occur via use of the Stream Map by the policy makers as a tool for achievement of the 2020 targets set out in the RES-Directive.
